I like that it is showing a school, because with all that’s been going down, I have a feeling that when Europeans visualize Palestinians, they have one of two images in their heads: either poor victims in rags, with blood on their faces, or cut-throat fanatics, with blood on their hands. And it’s important to remember that in different circumstances they achieve excellence and reach the top of their professions. Indeed some of these are my neighbours. So that’s the real tragedy of it, and, when we look at these poor kids in the photo, we should imagine also their potential, if only they had been dealt a better hand of cards.
